The Challenge

This client was new to product design, agile methodologies, and design thinking. In addition to my work on various projects and products, I evangelized UX and design thinking and answered the many agile questions for those new to the process.

The Process

I was brought on to help establish a UX presence for the analytic department of an extensive healthcare system. The entire organization was experiencing a digital transformation and needed UX in a product design capacity.

Immersing myself in a new product (link) to get the lay of the land was a great way to evaluate the current state, knowledge, and skill gaps and come up with my recommendations. I recommended what type of team structure, roles they should focus on hiring, and tech stack.

I created a team Confluence page with many resources—Nielsen Norman diagram of the centralized UX team, a proposed tech stack, and UX roles.

I also created an intake process. I explained that this would be key to help move them off of their concierge development model.

Product team Lean Intake Process

Based on the department's unique needs, I create a UX roadmap, laying out what they would need to focus on during the year to build a solid UX foundation.

To ensure the team could carry on with the work after my contract ended, I created a roadmap in Miro. Each Item on the board included an accompanying Jira ticket with stories and tasks.

Outcome

The client used my recommendations when negotiating with a consulting company for staffing needs.
